I love a Christmas family tradition no matter how small, and I love hearing about what other families do to make things just that little bit special for the kids, to create (hopefully) magical memories that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
In our house the tradition has always been for the children to wear new pyjamas to bed on Christmas Eve, something I started with my first child when she was just 6 months old and still wearing babygro's, some 24 years ago! Now all three girls are in their 20's but Christmas wouldn't be the same if they didn't have them!
I used to do all four children a stocking but have stopped that now the girls are grown up, as it was getting way to costly filling them up with make-up and lotions and potions. Charlie still has one along with his new p.j's but he is happy with a few joke shop finds, chocolate coins and hair gel, so it doesn't work out too expensive.
This year I decided to start something new, a bit late in the day now he is 13 perhaps, but still something I can continue to do for a few years yet, so I created his very first Christmas Eve Box.
The plan (which came to me whilst I was walking around Tesco last week) was to buy his pj's as normal but to put them in a box containing items for a night on the sofa anticipating Santa's arrival!
Firstly I bought the box (stupid move, had one indoors) and covered it in Christmas wrapping paper (bought in the Boots January Sale *polishing my halo again*). Inside the box I put everything for Xmas Eve, a new onesie, a Christmas DVD, along with some popcorn and sweets to eat whilst watching said film, thus creating our own cinema indoors type thingy.
I'm really excited about my Christmas creation, I just hope I can drag him away from the X-Box long enough to actually sit and watch a DVD otherwise it will be me and OH peeling sprouts on the sofa!
You can create your very own Christmas Eve Box with a range of goodies from John Lewis................
Red Boxes £8 - £10. Chocolate Coins £1. Childrens Onesie's for girls and boys here. Chocolate Popcorn £6. DVD from a selection at Amazon.
And remember they don't just have to be for the kids, I'd quite like one containing silk pyjamas and a copy of "Meet Me In St Louis"!
Do your kids have new pyjamas to go to bed in on Christmas Eve?
