Style At Every Age

I really do believe in the name of this blog, honestly and truthfully I do.  My three daughters (all in their early twenties) and I are living proof of it, with daughter number 2 frequently borrowing my shoes as our feet are the same size and daughter number 1 (above) even more frequently borrowing my clothes.  Number 3 doesn't get a look in, as neither our clothes or shoe sizes are the same, but it just goes to prove that whatever age you may be, there are so many garments that can be worn by women in their twenties as those in their late forties but with some things you really do have to draw the line, well I do.

As I have sailed through my forties I can honestly say there is a great deal of difference in what you wear as you approach forty, to what you wear fast approaching fifty. I remember at my fortieth birthday party, a top and trouser combination I wore at the time even showed a bit of midriff complete with pierced belly button. Three stone heavier and with the piercing removed many, many years ago, I find myself strongly influenced by current trends, the fashion blogs I read and catwalk looks, but have to give myself a good slap in the face over some of the things the lovely ladies of the blogsphere have me lusting after.  First up, the New Balance trainer.



Ever since I bought my thirteen year old son a pair of New Balance trainers last summer, the brand then really took off with fashion types and I have really wanted a pair. Badly. But every time I go to buy a pair all I can imagine is friends of my daughters coming round, seeing me in my beloved trainers and going home whispering about me to the tune of "did you see so and so's mum sitting there in a pair of New Balance, sad old cow ha ha ha". Now I am not normally one to worry about what others think of me, even though I am far more of a sensitive soul than you may think, the thought of footwear ridicule does make me shudder somewhat, hence the fact I still haven't bought any and when the need for a trainer takes over, I put on my sensible satin lace up pumps bought from Jigsaw a few years ago.


The same goes for the skate shoe. I have drooled over the out of budget Givenchy and cried over Kenzo versions and more realistically put pairs from Kurt Geiger and Office in my shopping basket on frequent occasions but have still failed to take the plunge and make that purchase.

I know most of you will tell me not to be so silly but think realistically before you do, if you are looking to grow old gracefully with an air of sophistication and a wardrobe full of chic and wearable pieces, what place do these fashion forward footwear pieces have within my shoe collection?

It seems that in my world, style is for every age group but perhaps the latest trends really are not.
