I have been desperate for some new glasses and also to see if my prescription had in fact changed, but whereas I wouldn't hesitate to make a Doctors appointment if something wasn't right, I have been naughty and neglected my vision. I have to have varifocal lenses and always want designer frames. Naturally. So when Specsavers got in touch and offered me a voucher towards the cost of some new glasses, it was just the kick up the backside I needed to get my eyesight sorted.
I had never been to Specsavers before but had always wanted to go, more so since their fantastic add campaigns of late. I thought the old couple on the roller coaster was my favourite until the workout in the village hall had me in stitches. I have always gone to a local optician, a one man band apart from a receptionist, so upon entering Specsavers it was a whole new world to me. First somebody to take your details, somebody to do a few little tests which include that puffer thing in your eye, then on to the actual eye test with the optician who reported that although my prescription was quite high, my eyes were stable and only needed a slight enhancement to make reading (blogging) easier. Then it was out to browse around the frames before sitting down with another member of staff to discuss my choice, take details regarding lenses etc and my order was placed.
I had been asked by Specsavers to choose something from the new Aurora or Replay ranges and although there were some Aurora frames that were really nice, I don't think the frames were dark enough to suit me, after having worn black frames for the last few years. A quick glance around the Replay stand and a geeky tortoiseshell frame with teal arms took my eye (no pun intended) and were declared the pair for me. In fact my eldest daughter was pretty gutted as she wanted them too! Luckily it is one thing I own that she can't borrow, along with shoes - result!
I have been wearing my new glasses for just over a week and am really pleased with them. They feel really comfortable and so many people have complimented me on them and I have to say it is so nice to be looking through lenses that aren't scratched to within an inch of their life, they were beginning to make me blink and I was constantly trying to refocus, which makes your eyes ache after a while.
I can't thank Specsavers enough. Without them I would still be wearing those old black frames and the service was second to none, I made sure nobody knew I had a voucher from the press office until it became time to pay so that I could give an honest account of the service I received and I honestly couldn't fault it.
