Hen Do Antics

I shall call my little jaunt to Marbella last week a mini break as opposed to a hen do as my account of our stay there is far more civilised than the rest of the group! I would never have gone in the first place had one of my friends not accepted her invitation and then the mission was on to strike a balance between being Mum to bride and hens and allowing them to get up to all the antics you would expect.

I am a great believer that your kids need to have fun, I always remind myself that I was young once (yes really I was) and that they are not doing anything I didn't once do myself and they are all now in their twenties so it's not like they are sixteen and still being sheltered from the evils of drink!

After our first night out on a bar crawl around the port which ended up in Linekers and a VIP area complete with hen party banners and balloons, being surrounded by youngsters, I have to admit I really did feel my age so I decided that my friend and I would spend the day with the girls around the pool and enjoy their company for dinner after which we would leave them to it! I think I got the balance right and have to admit it was rather funny as the girls were getting home as I got up for breakfast!

It was also lovely to be back at the H10 Andalucia Plaza, somewhere we haven't stayed since it became adult only about six years ago. I had originally thought that this step would lead to nothing but stag and hen groups but I was wrong, there were couples, golfers and a few groups of older women thrown in for good measure. We arrived at lunchtime on Wednesday so spent the afternoon in the sunshine. Same again Thursday but sadly Friday was a cloudy day which was so thick it never cleared or allowed the sun to peep through but it remained warm enough to laze around and drink cocktails from the pool bar - phew! Saturday was hot and sunny with a DJ playing around the pool all afternoon - the perfect way to end proceedings before our 7.30pm pick up for the airport. Although room checkout was 12pm, we had the option of paying to keep the room on, but instead opted to put our cases in a designated room and take a complimentary shower before departure.

I was just going to breakfast when I found her like this!
I booked myself a blow dry at the hotel hairdressers on Friday and was amazed by how they do it! As each section was curled, the brush was left in and I (along with the other 6 of our group who also had one) was left with a head full of brushes! Quite heavy as they get to the last section at the top but so worth it, the smoothness of the finish and how soft it felt beats any blow dry I have ever had in the UK hands down!

Long time readers may remember that I went away with two girlfriends last May, the first time I had ever left my youngest or my husband and having done so again (although this time three of my children were actually with me) I really think it is a great way to recharge your batteries and just be "you" for a few days, not mum, wife, washer woman or cleaner and if you are really lucky, those left at home might just appreciate all that you do just that little bit more.

Are you heading off the sunshine any time soon?
