It was a couple of years ago now that I did a series of post's entitled "Wednesdays Wardrobe Staple". The whole point of the series was to talk about the items every woman should have in her wardrobe, the building blocks that stylish outfits can be built around and having long been a lover of the "Parisian Chic" way of dressing and the simplicity a few key pieces can bring to wardrobe, I felt it only right that as we all start to think about spring cleaning the house, it could well be the right time to think about spring cleaning our closets in a concious effort to make a shopping list of essentials that won't just see you through the new season, but way beyond.
It is so easy to fall in love with new season collections, colours and micro trends that buying an essential grey marl t-shirt can begin to feel like a chore as you hand over your cash rather begrudingly, but it is time to educate ourselves into knowing that if we get the basic's right, the rest will follow and we can then allow ourselves an impulse purchase or two.
As much as I have waxed lyrical (for the last four years I might add) about the classic white shirt or the breton top, I don't always take my own advice and there are still certain items I have failed to secure which in my head will bring my whole wardrobe together with ease. The other point I would like to bring in to these posts is that of replacement. Sure we all have a pair of dark skinny jeans but nothing last's forever and these core pieces if you have them, will at some point need replacing and something I recommended four years ago will no longer be available, so now feels like the perfect time to update, show what is currently available in addition to giving the series the new name of "Basics and Replacements". I know how hard it was for one of my daughters having to replace a pair of jeans last week when all she wanted to do was buy something pretty or on trend but it had to be done, she could never function without a pair of dark skinnies and nor could I.
I intend to take the current season into account and cover the style staples that every woman should own. I will cover options for all budgets plus idea's on how to style these key pieces.
